Jim Stinnett
Originally from the northwest, Jim presently resides in New Hampshire. Beginning in 1978, Jim attended North Texas State University and spent two years touring with the 1:00 Lab Band. After studying at North Texas State University, Jim relocated to Boston to attend and graduate from the New England Conservatory of Music where he studied bass with Ed Barker (Boston Symphony Orchestra) for five years. Jim has released many bass publications over the past two decades including The Music Of Paul Chambers, Fundamental Technique For Electric Bass, Creating Jazz Bass Lines, Reading In Bass Clef, and Arcology - The Music Of Paul Chambers Vol. 2 to name a few. In 1986, Jim began teaching at the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he continues to instruct a wide variety of subjects including arranging, writing skills, walking lines labs, reading labs, funk-fusion labs, bass performance group, practice techniques, survey of bass styles, as well as private instruction on both electric and acoustic bass. Jim is also the founder of the Bass Workout, a three-day, intensive workshop designed for playing in which both electric and acoustic bass students from all over the world have the opportunity to study and perform with professional musicians during multiple sessions held throughout the year.
