Lorenzo Feliciati - February 2005

Lorenzo Feliciati
Biography: My sound and style have been definitely influenced by my strong rock-blues background. I love to explore the different forms of expression that the bass can provide and particularly pay great attention to the evolution of music styles while never forgetting the harmonic and rhythmic supporting role of the bass. Over the years, I have become a regular collaborator to such pop artists as Niccolo Fabi, Tiromancino, Stefano Di Battista, Fiorella Mannoia, Neri Per Caso, and I've also maintained a strong schedule in other projects such as Power of Soul, a tribute to the genius of Jimi Hendrix, as well as a collaboration with the great drummer Agostino Marangolo in his electric jazz quartet. Since 2002, I have participated as the only Italian artist to play in all three editions of the European Bass Day held in Venlo and Nijemegen in the Netherlands and Viersen in Germany. During these events, I have shared the stage with Richard Bona, Linley Marthe, Dominique Di Piazza, and Norm Stockton. I also participate in every edition of the Frankfurt Musikmesse musical instruments fair and Rimini Disma Music Show as an endorser and demonstrator for Mark Bass amplifiers. As an instructor and clinician, I teach in music schools and music stores for Mark Bass all over Italy. I write articles and reviews for a couple of music publications including Chitarre (Italy) and Bass Magazine (Netherlands). I have just published my first solo project, Upon My Head, and it has been receiving terrific feedback from listeners worldwide. I live in the countryside of Rome with my wife Desiree (who sings on the track titled "Freebird" on my solo recording) and our lovely daughter Alice.

Gigs: I currently gig with my quartet all over Europe to support my new recording, Upon My Head, and I'm also touring with Italian pop singers Niccolo Fabi and Bungaro. I also just started an instrumental guitar trio with Alessandro Benvenuti (guitars) and Pier Paolo Ferroni. In April, I will start a tour with a trio project called Solo's with me on upright, Fabrizio Mandolini (saxes), and Leo Cesari (drums). During the summer, I will do some gigs with Perceptions, an instrumental trio with DJ Skizo (turntables & samples) and Pier Paolo Ferroni (drums). In October, I will do a short tour in Holland and Germany with Haze, a trio with Edoardo Righini (guitar) and Lucrezio de Seta (drums) that plays Hendrix tunes.

Gear: I am a loyal and proud endorser of Mark Bass amplifiers, and I do a lot of clinics all over Italy and Europe to demonstrate them in shops and music fairs. I also endorse Mari by RediVivus basses. They build a Lorenzo Feliciati signature bass, a 5-string bass with a high C string and a ramp between the pickup and fretboard. I also do a lot of studio work with other basses from Mari such as a 5-string Jocker with active electronics and a maple fingerboard as well as a 4-string Jocker that is like a modern version of a Jazz bass. My electric upright was built by Alter Ego, and I am a happy owner of a wonderful '72 Fender Jazz bass. I have a pedalboard that was assembled for me by MVM in Rome with a tuner, octaver, chorus, flanger, two distortion boxes, a Boss RV3 reverb/delay, and a Morley Bass Wha. I use and endorse nickle-plated Galli strings (.035, .045, .065, .085, .105, .125).
